This policy forms part of the Terms and Conditions and explains who is responsible for the vehicle during the rental, what the Partner's insurance covers, what no insurance covers and what to do in the event of an accident or damage.
1. Custody of the vehicle
From pick-up to return, the renter is responsible for the vehicle: for keeping it safe, for using it in accordance with the contract and the law, and for any damage they cause or allow to be caused. The vehicle may only be driven by the people named in the contract.
2. Insurance
Third-party liability insurance, compulsory by law, is the Partner's and covers damage caused to third parties under the Partner's policy. Elos is neither an insurer nor an insurance intermediary. In Cabo Verde, Partners do not usually sell cover for damage to the vehicle itself: what answers for that damage is the security deposit, shown on the vehicle page, at checkout and in the rental contract. If a Partner sells any separate protection, it appears at checkout, with its price, and applies under the Partner's contract.
3. What no insurance covers
Damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, filling up with the wrong fuel, driving off-road where it is not allowed, or driving by someone not named in the contract, is not covered and is paid in full by the renter. Fines, tolls and penalties during the rental are the renter's.
4. In the event of an accident
Make sure everyone is safe and call the authorities whenever there are injuries or a disagreement. Fill in the accident report form where applicable, photograph the vehicle and the scene, and contact the Partner immediately using the contact details in the contract. Without a report to the authorities when one is required, the Partner may lose its insurance cover and the renter is liable for the full amount of the damage.
5. Damage, inspections and charges
At pick-up and at return an inspection with photographs is carried out, which you sign and receive by email. New damage found at return is assessed by the Partner and charged through the deposit or by payment, with the invoice or estimate that justifies it. When the vehicle has a deposit, the amount charged for that damage does not exceed the deposit, except in the cases in section 3, which the renter pays in full. If you disagree with the assessment, contact us: Elos mediates on the basis of the inspections.
