How We Rank Results

The list shows only the cars that match what you asked for: the island, the dates, the type and the filters. The order follows the rules below, from the most important to the least.

This is the most important rule, and it cannot be bought. If a car is not free on your dates, or is on another island, it does not appear. That does not change, whatever the company pays. In Cabo Verde you cannot drive from one island to another: showing you a car on another island would be a mistake.

If you choose «cheapest first», «most expensive first» or «by name», the list follows that order exactly. No payment changes the order you chose.

«Recommended» is the order you see when you do not choose another one. There, up to 3 cars can be at the top because the company pays for placement in its plan. Those cars always carry the Sponsored label.

• Each company has at most one of those places, so the list is not filled by one company.
• When more companies have placement than there are places, the places rotate between them, so none is always left out.
• Placement does not change the price. The car costs the same, at the top or not.
• Placement is not a quality mark or a recommendation from Elos. It only means the company paid for that place.
• Only a car with a complete listing (16 of the 20 listing points, explained below) can take that place.

Below the sponsored places, the «Recommended» order does not depend on any payment. Each car earns points for things that count the same for every rental company:

• A complete listing (20 points): 6 or more photos of the car itself and the deposit stated. Also the counter's opening hours, the cancellation hours the company chose and the pick-up locations marked on the map.
• The price (25 points): the price per day compared with cars of the same type on the same island. If you chose dates, it compares for the same dates. Cheaper than the others, more points.
• Reviews (20 points): the average rating from people who have rented, adjusted for how many there are. With few reviews, the average stays close to 4 out of 5, so one 5-star review does not count the same as fifty.
• Demand (10 points): bookings made on the site in the last 30 days, with a cap, so those who already sell do not take everything.

A fifth part, the company's reliability (25 points), counts the same for everyone today and does not change the order. When data is missing, each part counts as the average, so a new company does not end up at the bottom of the list.

On top of the points, there are rules to vary the list:

• in the first 6 places, different models and car types;
• never the same model twice in a row, nor 3 cars in a row from the same company;
• companies take turns among cars less than 5 points apart, never putting a car 5 points worse ahead;
• among those cars, from the same company or not, the turn rotates every 15 minutes.

Only for one of the sponsored places explained above, through placement, which lets it mark a limited number of cars. The «Recommended» points cannot be bought. There is no auction, no pay-per-click and no other way to buy places outside the 3 places at the top. No payment changes availability, the price or the order you chose.
